Event Description: This month's meeting has Bruce Scherzinger presenting techniques for remote querying and report generation from a Joomla! MySQL database using MySQL Connector with Microsoft Access and Jasper iReport. Other topics recently discussed include auto-populating fields in RS Forms, importing users into a CB site from an external file (e.g., CSV, XLS, etc.) versus using a subscription management extension. If anyone has any other desires or ideas for discussion topics, please express them by posting to our Google Group. Event Description: Dan Cogliano has been developing shareware and open source applications for over 20 years, beginning with a shareware program for the Amiga computer in the 1980's to today with two open source applications for Joomla. The applications, Z Weather and Zap Calendar, are listed in the Joomla Extensions Directory and have received vary good reviews. Z Weather is an application that displays weather alerts, forecasts and current conditions from data supplied by the National Weather Service. Zap Calendar is an AJAX enabled native calendar application for Joomla, with full support of the iCal standard for importing, exporting and synchronizing events from external calendars. There are over 20 plugins and modules available for Zap Calendar, including plugins for mapping events, commenting, RSVP, weather and 3rd party application integration including JomSocial and Community Builder. Dan has also been a Joomla administrator since before it was called "Joomla" and these applications were born out of needs he had that were not being addressed by the available applications. Dan will demonstrate these applications as they are used on several Joomla sites that he maintains, as well as discuss open source issues and other topics relating to Joomla development. Event Description: Program: How we built www.joomladaydc.com, from Concept to Implementation. Presented with live demos by Don Cranford of Katalyst Solutions. Case study will include the template design and construction, and a behind-the-scenes look at extensions such as Project Fork and EventBrite that we used to manage our successful Joomla! Day DC! We'll also include time for attendees to present any questions they have. If you would like to attend in person will not have time to eat, pick up a sandwich at the nearby Subway and join us! We also have some new members planning to attend who have expressed in advance a need for JUG support, so we'll entertain general questions in a open forum as well. For those who cannot attend in person, we'll use Skype to provide remote participation by voice and possibly GoToMeeting for remote viewing. JUG members are highly encouraged to participate.
