Can't say how to reproduce this, but it uses htmlspecialchars() function which uses iso encoding by default.

Meta tags for 'generator' and 'description' can produce HTML errors if i.e. they have double quotes.

For reproduce this add this in template's index.php:

$this->setGenerator('generator "a"');
$this->setDescription('description "a"');

Patch is attached.

This statement returns true:
  $success = $xmlDoc->loadXML($weather_url, true);
but $xmlDoc->documentElement is null, and several dozen warnings are generated from xml_saxy_parser.php and xml_saxy_shared.php

I tracked the problem down to calls to call_user_func() calls like this:
  call_user_func($this->processingInstructionHandler, $this, $target, $data);
and made the $this parameter a reference:
  call_user_func($this->processingInstructionHandler, &$this, $target, $data);

That seems to have fixed the problem. I've attached my versions of the files.

Extensions > Template Manager > JA_Purity > Edit

When putting apostrophes (single quotes) and double quotes into the Logo text or in the Slogan, on Apply or Save, they are either lost or ignored.

- The Logo text: They are ignored.
- Slogan: Double quotes are lost and single quotes are ignored.

Thus, enter something like the following

    The Nine O'Clock News
    Macey's Blog
    The "Bigged" Circus

and they display as

    The Nine OClock News
    Maceys Blog
    The Bigged Circus

In Slogan, the double quotes in the last example would be lost.

The Logo text and Slogan should allow you to put in single and double quotes and have them displayed correctly.

URLs get messed up from time to time

http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/joomla/tracker/?action=TrackerItemEdit&tracker_item_id=18688

http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/joomla/tracker/?action=TrackerItemEdit&tracker_item_id=18688

I've been experiencing a rather annoying randomly intermittent and rare problem with Joomla URLs. Since problem is not continuous and it seems it has been getting more and more rare it is a bit difficult to diagnose but here is what I have gather from my own experience and others experience.

The Joomla 1.5 urls get messed up in links whether they are in menus or elsewhere on the site. Only links processed by Joomla (mostly internal links, bannerlinks and so on) are affected. The urls get component, category, section, image directory and other things mixed and repeated so that the url gets long, complex and totally useless.

Real life example:

index.php/component/banners/templates/ja_purity/plugins/content/fi/bileet/13-bileet-kuopiossa/fi/component/banners/click/fi/fi/vertaistuki/fi/yhdistys/saannot/fi/jaseneksi

Needless to say that this leads to 404. :-)

I have seen this problem through several Joomla 1.5 versions. It did not exist in 1.0. I've always used JoomFish but now stripped it off one of my sites. I have not yet seen this problem with 1.5.15 OR after removing JoomFish, but it has still been only a week or two.
My first report to Joomlaportal.fi forum of this problem is dated October 7th 2008. At that time it affected all menu links but corrected itself with time. (Original message in Finnish: http://www.joomlaportal.fi/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,51/topic,8955.msg33376#msg33376) My second report is a month later on November 18th when I updated my sites to Joomla 1.5.8. Only one of my sites experienced the problem. (The original thread in Finnish: http://www.joomlaportal.fi/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,51/topic,9172.msg34190#msg34190) At this time I'll point out that I've always chosen to not have the index.php part in my SEF urls and have seen to it that my htaccess is correct. By March 13th (my third report) I'd sited these anomalous urls in Google stats also. At that time the Joomla version was 1.5.9 (The original thread in Finnish: http://www.joomlaportal.fi/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,51/topic,9873.msg36670#msg36670)

Others experiencing the problem:

Username OCS reported a similar problem on joomlaportal.fi forum on July 30th 2009. He agrees it's the same problem I'm experiencing. For him clearing or disabling Joomla's internal cache didn't at first solve the problem. OCS reports the problem on several sites with thousands of visitors per day. Joomla or site AMP-versions or components weren't discussed. The original thread in Finnish: http://www.joomlaportal.fi/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,51/topic,10444.msg38727#msg38727

Username puntti reported a similar proble on joomlaportal.fi forum on April 4th 2009. He used Joomla 1.5.10 at the time. The problem did not affect frontpage but clicking any link expressed the problem. He did not use Joomla SEO but had tried it and sh404SEF without change in the problem. The problem proved to be randomly intermittent. There was some uncertainty about the correctness of his htaccess but the problem persisted even after they were checked. Puntti agrees that this is the same problem. He reported that Googlebot indeces those incorrect links which of course worsens the problem. Clearing Joomla cache solved the problem temporarily and disabling it permanently. Puntti did not use JoomFis on his site and the problem also affected Xmap.
The original thread in Finnish: http://www.joomlaportal.fi/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,51/topic,10054.msg37845#msg37845

After the puntti's report I generated a message to the Joomla.org forums: http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=544&t=392905

There is extensive information about the site on that report. The last SURE siting of this is from May 8th 2009 (see the joomla.org forum thread).

Rest of this information is speculative, intuitive and relates to my very untrustworthy memory. I've seen the problem after that. I have the intuitive idea that it is related to Joomla cache function and it its exacerbated by use of Joomla 1.5 SEF functionality. I don't remember ever seeing this my self on my own site with sh404SEF. The site information is take from the site I have seen this most and it has never had other SEF than Joomla's own. Moving the site on the same hoster from one webhotel server to a new one with never MySQL and PHP did not make the problem go away. My sites have legacy support on.

Some additional speculation about the problem is available on my and Amy Stephens Twitter tweets from yesterday.

I'd appreciate if anyone else experiencing this problem would chime in and the developers took a hard look at this.

This is original code:

function checkAll_button( n, task ) {

    if (!task ) {
		task = 'saveorder';
	}

	for ( var j = 0; j <= n; j++ ) {
		box = eval( "document.adminForm.cb" + j );
		if ( box ) {
			if ( box.checked == false ) {
				box.checked = true;
			}
		}
                else {
		  alert("You cannot change the order of items, as an item in the list is `Checked Out`");
		  return;
		}
	}
	submitform(task);
}

This is improved code, only alert when truly a checked box is found:

function checkAll_button( n, task ) {

    if (!task ) {
		task = 'saveorder';
	}

	for ( var j = 0; j <= n; j++ ) {
		box = eval( "document.adminForm.cb" + j );
		if ( box ) {
			if ( box.checked == false ) {
				box.checked = true;
			}
                        else {
			  alert("You cannot change the order of items, as an item in the list is `Checked Out`");
			  return;
		       }
		}
	}
	submitform(task);
}

http://www.alltogetherasawhole.org/profiles/blogs/should-joomla-15-be-upgraded

After gathering quite a bit of feedback, it seems that it is important to isolate this fix to the Frontend only, and continue to (on default) offer 1.1 so that people's sites are not broken. It is also important to offer no Mootools option and a 1.2 option for people to decide to choose.

Attached is a patch that adds a Global Configuration option that offers the following options:

1. Use Mootools 1.1 (default, continues as is today).

2. Do not load Mootools or Caption.js (Frontend continues to work, including the Forms)

3. Load Mootools 1.2 (compressed only) and loads a new copy of Caption.js and validate.js from RocketTheme

Thanks to Andy Miller and Djamil Legato @ RocketTheme for sharing copies of validate.js and caption.js for Mootools 1.2.

Basically the $options array is not even looking for the global cache settings, which probably needs some attention.

http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=431&t=455446&p=1921757

Go into Category Manager and sort by Section. Then go to News Feeds -> Categories and you will get this error:
DB function failed with error number 1054
Unknown column 'section_name' in 'order clause' SQL=SELECT c.*, c.checked_out as checked_out_contact_category, g.name AS groupname, u.name AS editor, COUNT( DISTINCT s2.checked_out ) AS checked_out_count FROM jos_categories AS c LEFT JOIN jos_users AS u ON u.id = c.checked_out LEFT JOIN jos_groups AS g ON g.id = c.access LEFT JOIN jos_newsfeeds AS s2 ON s2.catid = c.id AND s2.checked_out > 0 WHERE c.section = 'com_newsfeeds' AND c.published != -2 GROUP BY c.id ORDER BY section_name desc, c.ordering LIMIT 0, 100

To fix the issue, you can just sort by a different column in Category Manager again.

My guess is the cookie name for the sort variable is the same for the two and should be different.
