genRandomPassword returns very low entropy value

`genRandomPassword` seeds its random generator with a 32 bit value. This implies that it can only return 2^32 different values, no matter how long the requested output is. This is hugely misleading once the output is longer than 6 characters, since more output characters don't increase security at all. The entropy sources seem pretty weak too. I recommend using some cryptographic PRNG with proper seeding. A mersenne twister isn't designed for security uses.

Joomla 1.7.3 - Warning in libraries\joomla\cache\storage\file.php - Failed to open stream

FYI The file "libraries\joomla\cache\storage\file.php" in J1.7.x contains a fonction called lock() (lines 242 till 280). The function use a fopen statement to open the cached file. This, without first checking if the file exists. On my development machine, Apache raise a warning in line 250 when the file doesn't exists. Proposed solution : just add a JFile::exists(). error.php file protections don't work properly with PHP's CGI mode

The protected added to the error log file appear to be ignored due to a bug in PHP's CGI binary. This effectively causes it not to function properly. Media Manager does not cope with blanks in folder names

If I have a folder with the name containing a blank, Media manager does not display the contents of the folder correctly but displays the contents of the root folder(for Media Manager) e.g. images/

Fatal error: Call to a member function get() on a non-object : while editing any article

I get this (Fatal error: Call to a member function get() on a non-object in /home/jhapa/public_html/plugins/editors/tinymce.php on line 433) message when I try to edit article from article manager. Currently using version 1.5 of joomla. When I select other editor from Global congfiguration tab I get the same message except the line error number and the path changes. I tried but could not fix. Help ???

Email copy to self doesn't work in IE8

When sending a contact request from the contact form, if the sender request a copy to self using IE8 as browser, the mail never gets sent. Using the Developer tools in IE8 (F12) to trace, the issue seems to be on line 6 of mootools.js - Number expected. FF, Opera, Google Chrome works as expected - a copy of the mail is sent to the sender of the contact request.

JRequest::setVar() parameter 3 has bad default behaviour with HEAD requests

OK, so this is a rare case, but it's also an easy fix. This will also likely effect Joomla 1.6, 1.7, etc. I had some code in a component router that did: JRequest::setVar('option', 'com_COMPONENT'); ...so that later on code that expected JRequest::getCmd on 'option' to work would run. This works fine for a GET request, POST request etc. But fails with a HEAD request. This is due to some of the code in JRequest::setVar(), which has a switch on $hash: switch ($hash) { case 'GET' : $_GET[$name] = $value; $_REQUEST[$name] = $value; break; I suggest adding a line after the GET case to also be a HEAD case, so it reads: switch ($hash) { case 'GET' : case 'HEAD' : $_GET[$name] = $value; $_REQUEST[$name] = $value; break; Workaround: I'm now using: JRequest::setVar('option', 'com_COMPONENT', 'GET');

Remove 'Display: no' modules from Module Assignment list (1.7), or button to hide them

In 'the Module Assignment for this Menu Item' it shows you a list of modules. Unfortunately it also shows you a list of modules which are set to DIsplay: no. Meaning they are not assigned to this current menu item. There should either be a button to hide all of the 'not assigned' modules in this list or have them removed completely; They are not needed. When looking at a menu item we only want to see the modules ASSIGNED to that menu item instead of all of them. When having a large site it makes the job of trawling through all of them a nightmare. I understand this is seen as a shortcut to the 'module manager' but i truly think it slows workflow when you're trying to see which ones are on and off. If i want to edit my modules I will use the module manager. I don't see the point of having a 'module assigned' list if its just going to show all of the modules you have.
